Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME), Spain
The Geological Survey of Spain (Instituto Geológico y Minero de España, IGME) is a Public Research Organisation of the Spanish Government. Its main goal is to create geological and resources knowledge support for other Public Organisations, Private Companies, Universities, etc.
IGME was founded in 1849 and has developed research of Spanish mineral resources and subsurface structure since then, participating in hundreds of geological, geophysical and prospecting campaigns. Nowadays, and apart from its traditional commitments, IGME is also the National Centre of Reference about Environmental Research. The main CO2 reduction is planed for the period 2008 to 2012 in order to achieve a level of emissions 24% higher than in 1990. The 9% over Kyoto´s goal should be discounted through new natural sinks, like forests or geologic reservoirs. At this point, almost nothing has been done in Spain to locate appropriate reservoirs for CO2 storage.
