The Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) is an independent industrial research and development, training, and information center active in the oil, natural gas and automobile industries; its activities cover the entire oil and gas chain: exploration, production, refining, petrochemicals, engines, and the utilization of petroleum products.
IFP's vocation is to innovate and develop the knowledge and technologies that will enable the community at large as well as the oil & gas and automobile industries to achieve sustainable growth while preserving the environment. R&D at IFP is geared towards sustainable development, security of supply, protection of the environment and industrial goals. R&D is organised in four areas: Exploration-Reservoir Engineering, Drilling-Production, Refining- Petrochemicals and Engines-Energy.
The personnel includes 2000 engineers, scientists (123 ongoing thesis and 55 post-doctoral researchers) and supporting staff. Turnover in 2000 was about 308 million of Euro.
IFP posseses considerable expertise in geology, geochemistry, geophysics, reservoir management and environmental impact evaluation. Further developments have been done on other various topics in separation processes, oxy-combustion and economic calculations.
