Register Geo (MŽP) V3-01

In accordance with Act No. 44/1988, on the protection and use of mineral resources (Mining Act), the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) maintains an inventory of reserves of reserved mineral deposits and the Register of Mineral Deposit Reserves of the Czech Republic (hereinafter the “Register”).

The Czech Geological Survey is authorized by the MoE to compile the Register, which is based on the inventory of reserves of reserved mineral deposits, maintained according to Decree No. 497/1992, on the inventory of reserves of reserved mineral deposits, and on the Geo (MŽP) V3-01 annual reports, which are prepared annually by companies involved in mineral prospecting, exploration and mining or in the protection and inventory of unexploited reserved mineral deposits. The annual report is approved by the MoE.

The Register consists of the "Register of Mineral Deposit Reserves of the Czech Republic" and "Inventory of Reserves of Non-Reserved Mineral Deposits of the Czech Republic". The tables of the Register include general data on the amounts of geological reserves in individual reserved deposits and on the reserves of individual minerals (or their technological types), that are subdivided according to the methods used to exploit reserves, according to changes in the reserves in individual reserved deposits including the causes of these changes, and according to the state and changes in total reserves. For selected minerals, the Register also lists the quality characteristics of the reserves of reserved deposits and of extracted minerals for the past year.

The mineral reserves listed in the Register are geological reserves, i.e. reserves present in their original state in the deposit and calculated according to the reserves classification and exploitation conditions valid at the time the reserves were approved. Reserve calculations are currently approved by the Commission for Projects and Final Reposts (KPZ) of the Ministry of the Environment (MoE) or by contracting companies. The Register lists the years in which deposits were evaluated and in which reserve calculations were approved or verified. Changes in geological reserves are documented and reported by relevant companies.

The factors dictating how deposit reserves are exploited at the time the Register is compiled, with regard to prospective use, are the main criteria for indicating the deposit exploitation method, whereby deposits are characterized as single units.

The data reported by companies were verified by the MoE in collaboration with the Czech Mining Authority (ČBÚ) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) as to their completeness, reliability and relevance to previous reports.

The national Register is compiled annually and subdivided into the following sections:

  • Section I - Reserved deposits of metallic ores and trace elements
  • Section II - Reserved deposits of energy minerals
  • Section III - Reserved deposits of industrial minerals, including reserved deposits of reserved and non-reserved construction minerals.

The Inventory of Reserves of Non-Reserved Mineral Deposits of the Czech Republic is compiled annually in a similar way. It includes non-reserved deposits of non-reserved minerals (primarily construction minerals) and other periodically identified and inventoried deposits of non-reserved minerals. It also includes deposits exploited according to Act No. 61/1988, on mining activity, explosives and the state mining authority, and Decree No. 175/1992, on the conditions of exploitation of non-reserved mineral deposits. The data on mining, exploited deposits and sections of unexploited deposits were taken from the Hor(MPO)1-01 statistical reports of the MPO, which were prepared by companies authorized to carry out activities employing mining methods according to the above-mentioned act.

The Register of Mineral Deposit Reserves of the Czech Republic and the Inventory of Reserves of Non-Reserved Mineral Deposits of the Czech Republic are intended solely for use by a limited number of state authorities. The publication "Mineral Commodity Summaries of the Czech Republic" has been published annually for professionals and the lay public since 1992.

The publication includes data on selected minerals of the Czech Republic, which are or until recently were of industrial importance. It contains key data from the "Register of Mineral Deposit Reserves" and information on prices of mineral commodities, their technological characteristics and use, imports and exports, major producers, and areal distribution of resources. It provides perspectives on the mineral potential of the Czech Republic and on investment in mining projects. As the national information system and international collaboration develop, additional statistical data are added, taking into account the comments of readers.
