Annual report Hor - MPO

Based on a contract with the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO), the Czech Geological Survey (CGS) processes data from the Hor – MPO reports for the "Summary of Mineral Reserves in Mining Leases and Other Exploited Deposits of Non-Reserved Minerals".

The mining technology and operations data from the annual Hor (MPO) report are used mainly by the MPO to meet the targets of the National Mineral Policy with respect to minerals and their resources. The data are also used by the Czech Mining Authority, Ministry of the Environment (MoE), Ministry of Agriculture, state and local authorities, and by other institutions. The report must be submitted annually by mining lease holders or owners of deposits of non-reserved minerals that are unsevered, or by companies which were issued a permit for mining activities employing mining methods by virtue of Act No. 61/1988, on mining activity, explosives and the state mining authority. Since 2004, only selected companies are being contacted to provide data that are required by the above-mentioned institutions.

The report is subdivided into three sections.

  • Section "A" includes basic information and operating data of a given company.
  • Section "B" is processed separately for each mining lease and includes basic data regarding the mining lease, its reserves and production, remediation, reclamation and mine damages.
  • Section "C" is processed separately for each deposit of non-reserved mineral which is unsevered, and includes basic data regarding the deposit, its reserves and production, remediation and reclamation.

The data in the reports always relate to a specific mining lease or non-reserved mineral deposit for the given year. The MPO is responsible for safeguarding the data as defined in Act No. 89/1995. All staff members with access to the reports sign a pledge of confidentiality according to the act. This means that the data from the reports may only be provided with the consent of the respective companies and the MPO, or in the form of summaries without disclosing the source of the data.

The CGS distributes and processes the data from the Hor - MPO reports. The reports are collected by the MPO and handed over to CGS staff members. The data are verified, supplemented and stored in the databases of the Mineral Information System (SurIS). The collected data are processed and published in the "Summary of Mineral Reserves in Mining Leases and Other Exploited Deposits of Non-Reserved Minerals", which is provided to institutions authorized by the MPO. The stored data can also be provided in several formats as predefined summaries or Excel spreadsheets (*.xls files).

In addition to the data on mineral reserves and mining, reclamation information is also provided on a regular basis in summaries that are presented in the Statistical Environmental Yearbook of the MoE. The items covered include areas impacted by mining, areas being reclaimed, remediated areas and funds for remediation, reclamation and mine damage.
