These selected applications give access to information about inorganic natural phenomena to all interested persons ranging from government administrators to geoscientists and engineers, teachers, students, tourists and the wider public.

Bulletin of Geosciences (journal) – database

Application of the Bulletin of Geosciences, which is an international journal publishing original research papers, review articles, and short contributions concerning palaeoenvironmental geology, including palaeontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, palaeogeography, palaeoecology, palaeoclimatology, geochemistry, mineralogy, geophysics, and related fields. All papers are subject to international peer review, and acceptance is based on quality alone.

CGS e-shop (Czech only) – database

Applications for on-line shop of the Czech Geological Survey, the largest publisher of geological literature in the Czech Republic. E-shop offers around 2.400 products, both from our own production and from other publishing houses.It sells mainly maps, books, journals but also DVDs, CDs or field work equipment. It does not focus only on specialists in geosciences, it provides books for children or for wide public as well.

Decorative stones application provides access to the database of Decorative stones in the Czech Republic. It allows search information about decorative stones by commercial name, petrography, physico-mechanical properties of rocks, mineral composition, color, granuality, mining location and way of use.

Dictionary of geology, English-Czech and Czech-English – database

Application of Dictionary of geology is an electronic version of the geological dictionary compiled by Otakar Zeman, Karel Beneš and co-authors published by Academia Praha publishing house in 1985. Some missing terms were added by: Zdeněk Kukal, Petr Hradecký, Vladislav Rapprich and Marcela Stárková.

Geological encyclopaedia on-line (Czech only) – database

On-line geological encyclopedia application allows database based on publication "Malá encyklopedie geologie" (Small Geological Encyclopedy) which was published by prof. Jan Petránek in 1993. Publication was digitized with his support and supplemented by new terms. Illustrations was redrawn by J. Synek and some of terms has additional photos.

Geology for all (optimized for mobile devices) (Czech only) – map

Map application presents hundreds of geosites (geologically interesting sites) in the Czech Republic to a wide public. It includes natural geological outcrops, remains of human activities, mainly of mining origin, caves and karst phenomenon, outdoor geological exhibits, museums with geological expositions, national geoparks and excursion guides (for download in PDF). Every geosite is briefly described and accompanied by a photo, note of its protection and other references. For more special purposes the layer with thousands of other significant geological localities and links to its detailed web pages is presented. It is possible to turn on also geological map (1 : 50,000) of the Czech Republic. The application is based on CGS own technology to display map services using ESRI API 3.x. Its functionality and design are optimized for touch devices and small displays. Geolocation support makes the application suitable for field use. Base maps - detailed topographic maps and aerial photos - are provided by the company Seznam.cz, a.s..

Geoscience research reports (journal) – database

Application of the "Geoscience Research Reports", which contain papers in thematic groups about the results of the latest research and progress in different fields of geological science and applied geology, including the results of investigations carried out abroad. They have been published as regular periodical journals in printed form by the CGS since 1952. A free access to full-fledged texts of single articles has been provided since 1991 in electronic form (pdf).

History of geological mapping of the area of the Czech Republic (Czech only) – map

This map server application presents two sets of old geological maps from the area of Bohemia and Moravia - manuscript geological maps at a scale of 1 : 28,800 and printed geological maps at a scale of 1 : 144,000 (so called Haidinger maps). Attributes available for manuscript maps: title of the map sheet in Czech and German, information about the author and date of creation (if it is available), link to a file with geological legend (if it is available) and links to map archives of CGS and GBA. Attributes for printed maps: title of the map sheet, name of the author and link to the CGS map archive. The manuscript maps are published on CGS map server with the permission of the Archive of the Geological Survey of Austria (GBA).

Interesting geosites of the Czech Republic – map

Map application is usable directly in the field thanks to its geolocation using GPS. It briefly and clearly describes geologically interesting sites in the Czech Republic - natural geological outcrops, caves and karst phenomenon or remains of human activities, mainly of mining origin. Description of the geosite includes a photo, note of its protection and other references. Moreover one can choose layer Decorative stones with basic information about displayed objects. Base maps - detailed topographic maps and aerial photos - are provided by the company Seznam.cz, a.s. The application is based on CGS own technology to display map services using ESRI API 3.x. Its functionality and design are optimized for touch devices and small displays.

Photo archive of CGS (Czech only) – database

CGS photo archive application makes large historical and contemporary photographic documentation of the CGS from the Czech Republic and abroad accessible to public. This application allows the user to search photos according to the information about the author, year of origin, localization (based on administrative units), geological classification, geological age and geological localities. Predefined galleries (series of thematic images) are available as well (e.g. Lipno dam construction 1958–1959 or Expedition to the Antarctic 2004–2009).

The application displays review of the Czech Geological Survey current events at the RSS version 2.0 format. You can display and receive content of this channel by the majority of modern web browsers, by specialized RSS readers or by using a web application supporting the function of RSS reader.

Significant geological localities – database

Application presents an overview of the important geological localities in the Czech Republic. It is logically divided in two parts: viewing (view and search for the localities in map), and search (database search according to different criteria: localization, geological characteristics, level of protection etc.). Users can display an expert evaluation, photographs, references in literature for individual localities. Print outputs can be generated.

Significant geological localities – map

Map server application creates an overview of the significant geological localities in the Czech Republic. The application presents sites in the Czech Republic which demonstrate extremely diverse geological features, occurrences of significant rocks, minerals and fossils. The application enables the user to search according to attributes of the localities, administrative units, map grids etc. Other map layers are also available (geological maps, etc.).

Virtual museum of CGS collections – database

Virtual museum application provides an opportunity to visit on-line paleontological, mineralogical and geological collections of the Czech Geological Survey. Application offers wide visual and textual documentation of the most interesting exhibits of collections for general public and experts. Also paleontological collection of Central Registry of Museum-type Collections (CES evidence) and material administrated according to law 122/2000 Sb. is included. Application contains taxonomic tree, index of terms, stratigraphy and links to interesting sites. The application allows to search using the map.
