Map applications

The majority of CGS map applications intended for wider public as well as for geoscientists are run on a map server. The CGS map server is the basic entry point to all available digital geoscientific maps of the Czech Republic, which are being continuously updated.

This list also includes map applications that work with static data and are distributed mainly on CDs or DVDs. A thematic overview of the map server applications can be found in the so‑called guidepost of map applications.

Alphabetical list of applications is generated automatically from records in the CGS metadata catalogue.

Geological map 1 : 25,000 (Czech only) – map

The map server application displays the results of geological mapping of the Czech Republic at a scale of 1: 25,000 (GEOČR25), which has been going on since 1999 to the present. These include vector geological maps depicting both surface geology as well as bedrock geology (maps with / without quaternary cover). Geological mapping at a scale of 1: 25,000 is carried out regionally, in defined areas of interest (a unified regional legend is available for each area of interest). As of March 2022, data is available from the regions of the Brno agglomeration, Český ráj (Bohemian Paradise) – Krkonoše (The Giant Mountains) - Liberec, Jeseníky Mountains, Křivoklát - Brdy, Lugicum, Moldanubicum, Moravia, Polabí (the Elbe region) and Žďárské vrchy (Highlands of Žďár).There is an overview map layer of the mapped areas in the application. The raster geological maps 1: 25,000 (in the S-JTSK coordinate system) with legends and the full map citations are also accessible from this application. These include both archive maps (produced before 1999) and maps generated from the above-mentioned vector map data. Archive maps (rasters) of geological maps at a scale of 1: 25,000 in the S-42 coordinate system (in the Gauss-Krüger projection) are also accessible in the application, inclusive of displaying their legends.

Hydrogeological map 1 : 50,000 – Regions (Czech only) – map

The map application displays hydrogeological maps that were processed during the solution of various types of projects in the CGS. The extent of hydrogeological units is derived from the geological map on a scale of 1: 50,000 and the HydroGEOČR50 layer, which was created within the R&D project of the Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic SP/2e1/153/07. Within the individual regions, the values of the transmissivity of the hydrogeological units, the type of the hydrogeological environment and the sequence of collectors and aquicludes in the Czech Cretaceous basin are shown in the hydrogeological maps. Data on the chemical composition of groundwater and hydraulic properties of rocks are presented for selected archival wells. Descriptions, results of field measurements and photo documentation are available for individual hydrogeological objects documented in the field (eg springs).

At the same time, an areal overwiew of the surface water chemistry in the Czech Republic between 2007-2010 is available. During this period, there was a dramatic decrease in acid deposition and significant improvement in wastewater treatment, the main factors affecting the chemistry of surface streams. For the selected components shows the change from conditions in the years 1984-1996. It is a period when there was probably the greatest pollution of surface waters and their affected by acid rain.
