Database applications

Database applications of the Czech Geological Survey are the basic tool to access the data from the central data store. The following list contains links to operational data (catalogues, contacts, reporting in critical situations), archive and library data, documentation and map data (boreholes, thin sections documentation, significant geological localities etc.).

Alphabetical list of applications is generated automatically from records in the CGS metadata catalogue.

Annual report Hor - MPO (Czech only) – database

Application of Annual report Hor - MPO. The data in the reports always relate to a specific mining lease or non-reserved mineral deposit for the given year.

ASGI - Archive of unpublished geological reports (Czech only) – database

ASGI - Automated System of Geological Information application allows unified access and parametric search of reports and opinions saved in all CGS archives. It’s primarily documentation of Geofond department archive under the Act of geological projects and expert outputs from organization since it’s foundation. Besides detail information about reports allows thumbnail of digitized documents. Some documents from another geological organizations archives are also available.

Bulletin of Geosciences (journal) – database

Application of the Bulletin of Geosciences, which is an international journal publishing original research papers, review articles, and short contributions concerning palaeoenvironmental geology, including palaeontology, stratigraphy, sedimentology, palaeogeography, palaeoecology, palaeoclimatology, geochemistry, mineralogy, geophysics, and related fields. All papers are subject to international peer review, and acceptance is based on quality alone.

Catalogue of CGS library – database

These e-catalogues contain the titles of books, offprints, electronic publications, periodicals to which the CGS library subscribes, and classified lists of papers about the geology of the Czech Massif and related geological units by Czech and foreign authors published in Czech and foreign periodicals, and monographs deposited in the library collection. Catalogue of the earlier publications is currently being completed. Currently is possible to search in database of Ministry of the Environment Library, which was closed. This source has signature prefix ZP.

CGS e-shop (Czech only) – database

Applications for on-line shop of the Czech Geological Survey, the largest publisher of geological literature in the Czech Republic. E-shop offers around 2.400 products, both from our own production and from other publishing houses.It sells mainly maps, books, journals but also DVDs, CDs or field work equipment. It does not focus only on specialists in geosciences, it provides books for children or for wide public as well.

CGS Projects – database

Application "CGS Projects" enables viewing of current and completed, internal and external CGS projects from various grant providers, both czech, e.g.: GACR (The Czech Science Foundation), TACR (Technology Agency of the Czech Republic), CDA ( Czech Development Agency), MSMT (Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports), MPO (Ministry of Industry and Trade), MZE (Ministry of Agriculture of the Czech Republic), MZP (Ministry of the Environment of the Czech Republic), and foreign, e.g.: European Commission grants, HORIZON 2020, Norwegian Funds. Research and non-research projects are listed. Research projects can be further searched according to six research category of the long-term development concept of CGS. Research category: 1. Dictionary of geology, English-Czech and Czech-English – database

Application of Dictionary of geology is an electronic version of the geological dictionary compiled by Otakar Zeman, Karel Beneš and co-authors published by Academia Praha publishing house in 1985. Some missing terms were added by: Zdeněk Kukal, Petr Hradecký, Vladislav Rapprich and Marcela Stárková.

Documentation samples to geological maps (Czech only) – database

Application makes the records of all the documentary material to the mapping actions. Documentary material is sorted and stored in wooden crates for samples in the CGS depository in Lužná near Rakovník.

General catalogue - cards – database

The general catalogue is the scanned index of books, periodicals and off-prints covering the period 1850 -1986. It contains about 125,000 entries. The catalogue is sorted according to substantives in the name of the publication (including periodicals), and the names of authors. The catalogue was set up in 2001.

Geological bibliography – card catalogue of authors – database

Scanned bibliographical catalogue contains 100,000 entries of articles, papers, offprints and books published in the Czech and Slovak Republic (former Czechoslovakia) during the years 1928-1989. It's alphabetically sorted by author. Now it is closed.

Geological encyclopaedia on-line (Czech only) – database

On-line geological encyclopedia application allows database based on publication "Malá encyklopedie geologie" (Small Geological Encyclopedy) which was published by prof. Jan Petránek in 1993. Publication was digitized with his support and supplemented by new terms. Illustrations was redrawn by J. Synek and some of terms has additional photos.

Geologically documented objects – database

This application "Geologically documented objects" enables the user to buy his selected data from the database of the geologically documented objects of the Czech Republic (scil. borehole database) managed by the CGS using credit on his account. The database covers the territory of the CR and contains information on about 720,000 documented objects (boreholes, shafts, quarries, caves, wells, surface streams, reservoirs etc.) including about 620,000 borehole profiles and about 120,000 hydrogeological records. To find the desired objects the user can use a built-in map application or search the database by attributes.

Geological maps of Europe (1780-1918) – database

Application allows selection of scanned map sheets of historical geoscience maps before 1918 from Bohemia, Moravia, Silesia, Slovakia and adjacent territory of Europe. An index of authors contains biographical notes on distinguished authors including their contemporary portraits (only of half of the displayed authors). Application works with static data and raster images. It's available in Czech, English and Slovak language mutation. Full version is distributed on DVD (e-shop), free demo version is available on the web.

Geological maps of the CR at a scale of 1 : 25,000, interactive (1955-2001) – database

Application makes available 940 digital printed and manuscriptive geological maps at the scale of 1: 25,000 from the CGS Archive (1955-2001), including manuscriptive, graphic supplements and printed text legends for the maps. User can search maps by map sheet or coordinate system. Application works with static data and raster images. It's free available on web in demo version (district Vysočina), full version is on DVD-ROM (e-shop).

Geoscience research reports (journal) – database

Application of the "Geoscience Research Reports", which contain papers in thematic groups about the results of the latest research and progress in different fields of geological science and applied geology, including the results of investigations carried out abroad. They have been published as regular periodical journals in printed form by the CGS since 1952. A free access to full-fledged texts of single articles has been provided since 1991 in electronic form (pdf).

Interlibrary service (Czech only) – database

The Interlibrary service enables CGS library users to obtain documents related to their scientific interests from other libraries in the Czech Republic or from libraries abroad if these are not held in the CGS Library. This may involve interlibrary loans of books or the supply of articles copied from journals or proceedings. This service is provided free to the staff of CGS; the costs of the interlibrary service are covered by the CGS Division of Informatics. For other users a fee is charged for this service to cover the costs involved.

Map archive – database

Database application of digital map archive contains a large collection of geoscientific maps and manuscript documents from the Czech Republic and the world. Map documents are mainly produced by CGS and its predecessors. It is possible to carry out detailed searches using map applications by means of which previews of digitized documents and other detailed information can be obtained (explanation, legend, geological cross sections, etc). For most of the map is available on-line thumbnails.

Mapping and documentation boreholes (under review process) – database

Application for search the core material of boreholes. Material is stored in wooden boxes in the CGS depository in Lužná near Rakovník. Drilling cores are under review process provided by members of Geofond division (dr. Alan Donát). They will be included into the database system of Boreholes material documentation Geofond, and thus currently unavailable to the study.

Metadata catalogue of CGS – database

CGS Metadata catalogue is the central access point to search information (metadata) about data sources that are maintained and provided for public by the Czech Geological Survey. It is based on MIcKA system, which enables the user to work with metadata of spatial data in accordance with international standards (ISO, OGC and INSPIRE). Metadata are administered centrally in a database, edited and viewed through a web interface, and published by means of a standardized catalogue service (CS-W).

Mineralogical and geological collection (CGS collections) – database

Application allows synopsis of study material, including rock and mineral samples from the Bohemian Massif and a part of the West Carpathians, deposited in Collections of the CGS. The collections are included in the Central Registry of Museum-type Collections (CES evidence) with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic. Setting up of the Collection and its utilization is regulated by the law 122/2000 Sb. The most valuable part of the fund is kept in premises (Collections) in the CGS building, Klárov, Praha 1. The other parts of collections are kept in the CGS depository in Lužná near Rakovník.

Photo archive of CGS (Czech only) – database

CGS photo archive application makes large historical and contemporary photographic documentation of the CGS from the Czech Republic and abroad accessible to public. This application allows the user to search photos according to the information about the author, year of origin, localization (based on administrative units), geological classification, geological age and geological localities. Predefined galleries (series of thematic images) are available as well (e.g. Lipno dam construction 1958–1959 or Expedition to the Antarctic 2004–2009).

Radon index maps of the bedrock at a scale of 1 : 50,000 (Czech only) – database

Application displays Radon index map of the bedrock of the Czech Republic at a scale of 1 : 50,000 from mapping activities during 1999–2005. It's possible to search by year of publishing, map name and map sheet number. Application is available also on CD-ROM (e-shop).

Report of mine working impact (optimized for mobile devices) (Czech only) – database

Application is used for on-line reporting of mine working impacts (photos documentation can be also inserted). According to Mining Act any person who detects an old mine working or its surface impact must report this immediately to the MoE of the Czech Republic. The application is responsive and customized for touch devices (smartphones and tablets). Map is rendered by CGS own technology consisting of the set of Dojo modules and based on ArcGIS Javascript API 3.x.

Significant geological localities – database

Application presents an overview of the important geological localities in the Czech Republic. It is logically divided in two parts: viewing (view and search for the localities in map), and search (database search according to different criteria: localization, geological characteristics, level of protection etc.). Users can display an expert evaluation, photographs, references in literature for individual localities. Print outputs can be generated.

Thin sections documentation – database

Application makes information about entire thin section material stored in the CGS depositories in Prague.The material is sorted in the comprehensive database according to boxes and their description. Search of each deposited thin section is possible (database of thin section-boxes). For searching is possible to use names of minerals which are shared with geological code list of CGS.

Application enables viewing of digitized unpublished manuscripts and graphic geological documents stored in the CGS archives. It is accessible only to registered researchers and allows to easily view and read pages of documents in full resolution.To view the document you need to use its specific URL address.

Virtual museum of CGS collections – database

Virtual museum application provides an opportunity to visit on-line paleontological, mineralogical and geological collections of the Czech Geological Survey. Application offers wide visual and textual documentation of the most interesting exhibits of collections for general public and experts. Also paleontological collection of Central Registry of Museum-type Collections (CES evidence) and material administrated according to law 122/2000 Sb. is included. Application contains taxonomic tree, index of terms, stratigraphy and links to interesting sites. The application allows to search using the map.
