Head: RNDr. Hana Breiterová
Deputy: RNDr. Alena Čejchanová

The offer of information services provided by the Czech Geological Survey comprises actitivities of the Geological Library, Expert Archives and Geological Collections including on-line sources accessible from Internet.

Geological Library
The Geological Library of the Czech Geological Survey is gradually being tranformed into a modern Internet Library providing information services both to the professionals and the external public. Its collections comprise all the literature the CGS has published since 1919, along with geological titles related to the Czech Republic in general. Foreign-language geoscientific writing is obtained by purchase or by large-scale international exchange. Holding more than 170,000 books and 75,000 periodicals, the CGS Library currently represents the largest literary funds of geosciences in the Czech Republic.
Expert Archives
The Archives of the Czech Geological Survey preserve the results of its professionals’ activities. Accessible to the public, the archive fund numbers more than 60,000 geological maps – over 47,000 printed and manuscript ones of the Czech Republic territories and of 188 other countries of the world – and over 13,000 unpublished reports. All the archived maps and accompanying documents have been digitized up to now. This fact not only gives the expert and general public easy access to the unique material, but also enables the production of map applications in CD and DVD formats.
Geological Collections
The CGS Collections and Material Documentation Centre serve as a long-term storing of the geological materials acquired by the professional staff of the Czech Geological Survey as well as by geologists of other organizations. Nowadays there are about 300,000 specimens in the CGS Collections altogether. The paleontological collections, which contain more than 10,000 type and original samples, are of great importance to the worldwide paleontological taxonomy. The Virtual Museum has also been launched on the CGS Information Portal aiming to popularize geosciences as well as to educate the public.
