Soil contamination, degradation and erosion

The soil is an unrenewable and limited source which we vitally depend on and which fulfils not only the production but also environmental and social functions in the landscape and in individual ecosystems.

CGS Pedology Group is currently the only department specialized in soil science within Ministry of the Environment institutions. The main topics of activity are soil survey, digital mapping of soils and soil parent materials and evaluation of soil quality and soil degradation.

The need of up-to-date spatial information on soils is increasing in context of requirements within EU legislation. As an important project of the CGS Pedology Group can be considered digital soil mapping at a scale of 1: 50 000, which represents a valuable information source for the state administration as well as for the activity of scientific, research and educational institutions.
