Laboratory of Mineralogy and Special Methods
RNDr. František Veselovský
Head of the Laboratory
This group consists of three different units - fluid inclusions laboratory (P. Dobes), thin sections workshop, and a laboratory for separation of minerals.
The study of phase transitions in fluid inclusions enables to characterize the P-V-T-X patterns of paleofluids from various rock environments. Fluid inclusion microthermometric studies are carried out with a Chaixmeca heating-cooling stage in the temperature range from –180 to 600 Celsius degrees.
In the thin sections workshop, a number of different types of petrographical and mineralogical sections are prepared - covered and polished thin sections, oriented sections, paleontological thin sections and as well as slabs polished for fluid inclusion study. Basic devices are diamond saws, LP and Discoplan equipments for thin sections, Rotopol and BMG apparatus for polishing. Staff member of the lab are - H. Bláhová and H. Němcová.
In the separation lab, minerals are separated according to their gravity, size, magnetic, mechanical, and chemical properties. Basic equipment are magnetic separators and heavy liquid separation facilities. Staff member in the lab is F. Veselovský.
