Published publications

The CGS is the biggest publisher of geological literature in the Czech Republic. Publications range from the results of research carried out by survey geologists in the Czech Republic to the results of specialists working in collaboration with foreign governments and geological institutions in different parts of the world. To encourage younger readers and inform the public about the importance of geology to society, non-fiction books on geological topics, explanatory leaflets and a series of postcards are also published.

The readership of CGS publications includes professionals in all areas of the earth sciences (geologists, palaeontologists, mineralogists, petrologists, environmentalists etc.) as well as students of these scientific disciplines and amateur collectors and enthusiasts. The CGS publications are also the prime source of geological information for government and local authorities.

Periodicals

The periodicals edited by the Czech Geological Survey incorporate the most up-to- date results of geological research carried out in various fields in the Czech Republic as well as abroad. The high scientific standard of these publications has gained them an international reputation. One of the leading publications produced by the CGS is the Bulletin of Geosciences. At the beginning of 2007 this was incorporated in the ISI database (Web of Science) and given an impact factor. Other prominent CGS periodicals include the Bulletin on Geological Research that was approved by the Board for Research and Development for inclusion in the list of non-impact reviewed periodicals published in the Czech Republic. Because the established policy of the Czech Geological Survey is to provide the public with maximum access to professional information, all the periodicals published by the CGS – Bulletin of Geosciences, Czech Geological Survey Special Papers, Journal of Geological Sciences and Geoscience Research Reports – are available on-line free of charge.

Monographs

These professional publications, authored by specialists of the CGS, cover practically all the major fields of Earth science and are respected internationally for their quality. Many have set the standard for teaching a whole generation of geologists, as well as specialists in related sciences.

For children

The Czech Geological Survey is aware of the need to make geological themes accessible to children. This is crucial for the future of geosciences as well as for the whole of planet Earth. The programme of publication aimed at the younger reader is therefore treated with high priority as part of the CGS strategy of public engagement.
