    WMS SERVICES - WMS services provided by the Czech Geological Survey
Web Map Services (WMS) are services, which were created as a standard for GIS data sharing on the Internet. The Czech Geological Survey provides WMS services conformable with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) WMS v.1.3.0 specification.

   Instructions for displaying WMS services

  in ESRI products - ArcGIS Desktop

    1. In ArcMap application click on the Add data button.
    2. Navigate to add a GIS Server (see picture).
    3. Choose the Add WMS Server option (see picture).
    4. Fill in the address of the requested WMS service in the URL field (see picture) and click on Get Layers button. After displaying of available layers click OK.
    5. Now you can see the connected WMS Server in the dialog window like this. After selecting this server (by clicking the mouse or pressing the Enter key) you can see the available map service and you can select the map service in the same way as the server.
    6. After making the selection the map service is added in ArcMap (see picture)

  • Gaia (The Carbon Project)
    1. After installation of the viewer click the Add layer to map button.
    2. Then click Add new service to the list button. The dialog window pops up and you have to fill in the address of the requested WMS service and choose the type of the service (WMS).
    3. Click OK. The added WMS service is displayed in the top window. In the left window you can see the list of layers contained in the WMS service. You can add any layer by the Add layer button.
    4. Click OK. WMS service is added in the map window.

   in WMS viewers on the Internet (CGS is not responsible for their functionality)

    1. On the start page select Edit Servers and click Add New... button.
    2. In the dialog box fill in the URL address of the WMS service and click OK.
    3. In the next window select layers by checking the corresponding boxes and click OK again.
    4. The new selected service displays in the list of WMS services. Click the Update maps button and the service is added in the map window. If the display is limited to some zoom level, you have to zoom in sufficiently to see the map.
    5. If the selected map service is created from a raster map, you can display the map legend on the Legend tab. If the selected map service is created from vector data, it is possible to make queries by clicking in the map using the Feature Information tool from the top toolbar.

    1. In the start window click the Add data button.
    2. In the next window fill in the address of the WMS service.
    3. The individual layers of the WMS service are displayed in the next dialog window. By clicking on the name of the service, the service is selected with all layers and the service is displayed in a new window.
