After a two-year covid break, a geological expedition to Mongolia was organized again in July 2022. Under the leadership of Prof. K. Schulmann and Assoc. prof. O. Lexa, experts from CGS, the Charles University, the Geological Institute of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and students from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology worked along several hundred kilometres long geological profiles between the volcanics of the Trans-Altai Gobi in the south and the sediments of the Mongol-Okhotsk Ocean in the north. As in previous years, the geological phenomena were enhanced by the breath-taking Mongolian landscape and unexpected experiences when meeting local herders. The expedition was completed by a working lunch with the nestor of Mongolian Geology, Prof. O. Gerel and the Director of the MAS Geological Institute, Ms. Odgerel. The research in Mongolia is the main pillar of the GACR project EXPRO 19-27682X "Principal mechanisms of peripheral continental growth during supercontinent cycle”.
