A kick-off meeting of the 16-member consortium of the new European project SEMACRET funded by Horizon Europe program (2022-2024) took place at the Oulu Mining School in Finland on 7th and 8th June 2022. The project will focus on refining the deposit model of an orthomagmatic deposits and mineralisations of Ni, Cu, Co, PGE, V, Ti and Cr associated with ultramafic rocks. The project also aims to develop and test innovative exploration methods for the exploration for these minerals, which are indispensable for the green transition of the EU economy. The Czech Geological Survey is a partner in this project and will focus on the research of mineralisations bound to the gabbro-peridotite Ransko massif, which is one of the reference sites. Another task of the Czech Geological Survey will be to manage a work package mapping European and world resources of the above-mentioned raw materials and their reporting using the UNFC standard (United Nations Framework Classification for Resources ). The meeting included many presentations by all project partners and expert discussions on the procedures and planning of project activities.
