The Wall Calendar for 2008 – The Czech Geological Survey Abroad

November 29, 2007

For many years the Czech Geological Survey has been taking part in development cooperation in various ends of the earth. The new calendar presents a complete view of these activities. By exotic photographs and short comments it shows the way the CGS’s experts try to aid the less developed countries to alleviate poverty. In Central America and in Peru, for instance, the geologists direct their attention at their viewing of geological dangers, particularly seismic and volcanic activities, landsliding, erosion, and floods. Then, in Nicaragua and Mongolia, they map territories and search for raw materials, and in addition to that, in Zambia and elsewhere in Africa, they examine the influence of the extraction on the environment, evaluate the economic potential of selected areas, and the like. The Czech Geological Survey also collaborates on other projects, e.g. in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Ethiopia, and the Czech experts take part in research expeditions to the Antarctica.
