Department 630 – Department of mining impacts

This department is responsible for compiling geological documentation and the results of geological works relating to mining in professional databases, and for providing information about mineral exploration, mine workings and the effects of mining activity on the territory of the Czech Republic to national administrative bodies, local government and other physical and legal entities By authority of the Ministry of Environment it fulfils other tasks specified by current laws and regulations.

Section 631 – Mining Impact

  • Under the terms of § 12 of Act No. 62/1988 On Geological Works, as amended, (GA) this section is responsible for incorporating geological documentation and the results of geological works in professional databases. In fulfillment of § 17 of Act No. 157/2009 On the Disposal of Mining waste and amendments it compiles and updates the register of worked-out and abandoned deposits.
  • It compiles and updates the database of mine dumps, main mining operations and old mine workings and supplies information about the condition and safety of old mine workings for use by the Ministry of Environment.
  • It also compiles information about re-cultivation, land use planning and construction projects in relation to the geology of different areas, and to the protection of unexploited exclusive deposits.
  • It is responsible for the National Statistical Statement on Raw Materials Hor(MPO)1-01 including incorporation of all the information in the individual registers of the raw materials information subsystem (registries of companies and organizations, re-cultivated areas, deposits of raw materials and mining claims).

Section 632 – Mining Impact – Kutná Hora

  • Under the terms of §12 of the GA this section is responsible for compiling geological documentation and the results of geological works relating to areas affected by historical mining activity in the Czech Republic and their use, as stipulated in §13 of the GA,.in professional databases and for providing information about this.
  • It compiles and updates the database of undermined areas and periodically provides information for the land use planning authorities as required by §13 of the GA, as well as expert reports on risk geofactors.
  • It stores and administers a specialized collections of mining maps, professional books, papers and off-prints for use in the conservation of old mine workings under the terms of §35 of Act No. 44/1988 Coll., Concerning the Protection and Exploitation of Mineral Wealth (“Mining Law”). It jointly undertakes searches for mining documents in the collections held by other organizations in the Czech Republic and digitizes and integrates them in the database of mining maps, and the database of undermined areas.

Section 634 – Borehole and hydrogeological surveys

  • Under the terms of §12 of the GA this section is responsible for compiling and updating the professional databases containing reports on the results of geological of works concerned with drilling and hydrogeological exploration of the Czech Republic and ensures that this information is publicly accessible, including information about their utilization as required by §13 of the GA.
  • It compiles and maintains the database of geologically documented objects, identifying and classifying objects from both new and archival sources and entering them in the central relational database. The database of geologically documented objects also includes the database of geological samples and the database of geophysical logs.
  • It updates the databases of radiometric exploration, radioactive objects and radiometric anomalies.
  • It updates and maintains the database of hydrogeological objects, and the database of regional hydrogeological exploration. It also gathers information about contamination of ground waters, about objects in the sanitary protection zones of natural medical springs, the protection zones around spas and about mineral waters and sources of geothermal energy.
