Department 570 – Information services
The Information Services Section of the Czech Geological Survey was established within the Division of Informatics on 1st April 2001 with the aim of providing improved access for CGS staff and the wider public to published literature, reports manuscripts documentation and geological samples held in the CGS collections. The Information Services Section consists of the Geological Library, the Professional Archive of Expert Reports and Maps, and the Section responsible for the collections of Geological Samples.

These sections make significant contributions to the CGS information system through improvements to the content and accessibility of databases, and by providing public information services. The work of the individual sections is coordinated to ensure that a comprehensive and professional service is provided. Researchers have at their disposal two stylishly equipped study rooms where items from the CGS library, archive and collections can be examined on request.

Section 571 – Library
The library gathers, stores and makes accessible publications in the field of geosciences from all over the world, both in printed and electronic form. It compiles a geological bibliography based on publications by Czech and foreign authors relating to the geology of the Czech Republic. More than 165 thousand individual books are held in the CGS geological library which is the largest collection of geoscientific publications in the Czech Republic. Through inter-library loan services the CGS library also provides access to publications from other Czech and foreign libraries.
