Division 500 – Division of information systems

The Information Systems Division (500) was established on 1st January 2020 and is based on former Geofond (600) and Informatics (700) Divisions. Within the framework of the Czech Geological Survey activities, it provides a wide range of professional services for the execution of the State geological survey, research projects, advancement of the scientific activities while operating a secure infrastructure.

Department 520 – Informatics

Activities of the department involve around-the-clock operation of the CGS Information Systems, in-house application development, securing a systematic storage, administration and provision of CGS data, and implementation of international standards to ensure interoperability of the data sources within national and European data infrastructures (INSPIRE, EGDI etc.).

Department 530 – Geofond

The department is responsible for the activities about:

  • Receiving, processing and archiving of unpublished geological documents, results of geological works and geological samples relating to them
  • Scanning of geological documentation
  • Providing access to geological documentation
  • Maintaining the storage of administrative documents, samples (oil boreholes, schlich maps)
  • Depository of duplicate survey and geophysical reports, assesments and measurements

Department 540 – Department of the Mineral Information System

The department is responsible for the activities about:

  • Registration of geological work projects
  • Review inventory of geological projects and the organizations that undertake them
  • Protection and registration of mineral resources according to the Geological Act and Mining Act
  • Register of mineral deposits and reserves
  • Provision of up-to-date documents regarding for the mineral policy of the Czech Republic
  • Data processing of state statistical statements reports

Department 550 – Department of mining impacts

The department is responsible for the activities about:

  • Maintaining the Inventory of Mine workings impacts
  • Maintaining the Mine Waste Database
  • Documentation related to assessment of land development and land-use planning
  • Information on geological features related to land-use planning
  • Publication of specialized thematic maps

Department 560 – Department of geological exploration

Department 570 – Information services

The Information services department of the Czech Geological Survey was established within the Division of Informatics on 1st April 2001 with the aim of providing improved access for CGS staff and the wider public to published literature, reports manuscripts documentation and geological samples held in the CGS collections. The Information services department consists of the Geological library, the Professional Archive of Expert Reports and Maps, and the Section responsible for the collections of Geological Samples.

Department 580 – Publishing

The Publishing Department of the Czech Geological Survey is the biggest publisher of geological literature in the Czech Republic. It specializes in professional publications devoted to individual fields of the Earth sciences, on geological and related thematic maps at different scales as well as titles on geological themes of general interest, which will inform the wider public and appeal to the younger generation.
