Project scope

Compile comprehensive field geological mapping to be used as base maps for processing thematic layers that enhance environmental management for decision makers and developers

Field inventory of key geo-hazard features

Field inventory of water points

Generation of thematic maps from the geological base maps and additional field documentation

Preparation of detailed explanatory booklets for each map sheet

Enhance the capacity of local geologists for undertaking similar geo-scientific thematic mapping for the future

The outputs

Four sets of geo-scientific thematic maps at a scale of 1:50,000 corresponding to geological, hydrogeological, soil and geo-hazards themes for each map sheet which is 16 maps in total.

Detailed explanatory booklets for each mapping locality, which is four booklets in total.

Dissemination workshops at Woreda Offices (local administration Offices of the mapped sheets)

Geo-scientific thematic mapping manual and collaboration in the field for peer to peer skill transfer.
