Analysis of natural risks affecting agricultural production in selected areas of Southern Nations Nationalities and People’s Region (SNNPR), Ethiopia

Four maps delineated in accordance with the scheme of the geological survey of Ethiopia for covering the country in geo-scientific maps based on 1:50,000 scale map series of Ethiopian Mapping Agency.

General project context

The Czech Development Agency is involved in various activities in identified priority intervention countries and regions in its international development assistance to developing nations, of which Ethiopia is on the first list. The Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Region has been selected in Ethiopia for prior focus in the intervention with a focus on a number of issues ranging from support for hospitals, vocational schools to expansion of safe drinking water and improving agricultural productivity and natural disasters resilience. A project was hence implemented with a focus on generating important environmental natural geo-factors that play a key role in land management and resource utilization for the local community. The lack of such information in the form of spatial distribution is the main concern to pave the way for effective management of the land in the areas selected for demonstrating the preparation of such maps.

Location of the prepared maps
