Nemejc (1937) described Fortopteris radnicensis on the basis of the type collection and did not select a holotype. The author of this paper chose and exactly described a lectotype and paralectotype from the type collection. Both lectotype and paralectotype characterise the frond, leaves, and cuticles of Fortopteris radnicensis. Fortopteris radnicensis can be well distinguished from Fortopteris latifolia (Zeiller) Boersma: The bases of leaflets of Fortopteris radnicensis are much narrower than those of Fortopteris latifolia, the pinnule margin of F. radnicensis is deeply denticulate in comparison with F. latifolia and adaxial cuticle of F. radnicensis has 'glandular' cells in sense of Barthel (1962) arranged in bands consisting of two parallel rows. The 'glandular' cells of F. latifolia are irregularly scattered in the adaxial cuticle. The fructifications of Fortopteris radnicensis are unknown and the affinities F. radnicensis remain uncertain.
